Sign Language Leads a Large Community

When a baby girl was born, the Dutt family was overjoyed and busy with how to take care of it. They started assigning for the best things in the world. Like other babies, the girl named Nitu was growing up and trying to learn her mother tongue. When she was six, she was suffered from heavy fever and lost her hearing ability. From then Nitu can' t hear her mother voices or her friend laughs. But she would try to understand her mother's facial expressions or body movements and follow what her mother does.

When Nitu's parents became sure that she was deaf, they admitted her an infant special care school. She began to learn Sign Language. She started to talk again with handshape words. She used touched chin with thumb 5 for 'Mom' or crossed arms at the chest for 'Love'. Sign Language broke down Nitu's silence and gave her a new way of communication with her parents and others. It really changed her life.

Why people become deaf?

Deaf people can't hear or understand the voices that normal people use all over the world. It is caused by heredity, illness, abnormalities and hearing injuries, etc. Sometimes, it also happens for the side effects of some high power medicine.

Communication Conflict between Deaf and Hearing People:

Hearing people can hear everything, interact with sounds and give feedback with vocal sound. It all happens traditionally. On the other hand, deaf people can't hear your voices. They don't have vocal cords.  They use their hands to shape a word and express their feeling. It's like embedding a secret code. They use code to communicate with others.
Complication conflicts happen when common people and deaf people can try to communicate with each other. Because deaf people use code that is called a sign. Every sign has a special meaning. If hearing people don't know how to encode the sign, they can't understand what the deaf people say and don't know how to interact with deaf people. They ignore, shout at and treat team asif deaf people are not as smart as them. But it is wrong. If you talk to them normally and try to understand them, they are enough smart to understand.

How to Solve Communication Conflicts:

Conflicts are just like collisions that create musicless rhythm. A proper combination of instrument and music make a sweet song. When hearing people communicate with deaf people without knowing sign meaning, it is just like a musicless rhythm that is caused by conflicts. Nowadays, technology has given a great opportunity to remove that kind of conflict. TTY and Video Phone open a new door for the deaf community. Deaf people now can communicate with hearing people without interruption. When hearing people phone deaf people, TTY adds an interpreter who works as a third party. The interpreter converts sign to voice for hearing people and also the voice to sign for deaf people. As a result, this communication becomes effective and expressive.

Language of Deaf Community:

A language is a communication tool. People use it for their needs. People express their feelings, thoughts, experiences by using it. Socrates says,
"If we hadn't a voice or a tongue, and wanted to express things to one another, wouldn't we try to make signs by moving hands, heads, and rest of our body, just as dumb people do at present? "

The point elicits that deaf people use sign to express their feelings and thoughts. But the question is: Have they any language?

The answer is deaf people have a full-featured language. It is called Sign also known as Sign Language. Like other languages, there are 137 kinds of Sign Languages all over the world. American Sign Language, British Sign Language, Scuba Diver Sign Language, Indo-Pakistan Sign Language, and Army Sign Language, etc are most popular among them. Such as American Sign Language(ASL) is a visual language. It is the most expressive language and the fourth most common language in the United States. In ASL, deaf people basically use hand to shape words and express sentences, thoughts and feeling but it has also gesture, body language, facial expressions, and manual signs.

Sign Language has its own grammar and lexicon that enrich the language.

Career Opportunities for Deaf People:

Shuvo, 26 years old, is working as a technology firm as a chief engineer. His monthly salary is approximately 1,875 dollars. He says, "People think deaf people are like a parasite and can't take part to develop the society. They are totally dependent on others. But the day has changed. Deaf now can do everything, full day job, and challenging profession, etc."

Deaf people can become a doctor, engineer, teacher, artist and business holder, etc. If they are given special training, proper education, and skill development courses, they do perform well.
