Seven tips for English language learners

Adrita Rahman, a formal student of Dhaka University,  has recently completed her under graduation with the subject of Biomedical Engineering.  Now, she makes up her mind to go abroad for higher degrees to the related field of the subject. But she is going through a severe source of frustration cause she only had a poor grab of grammar. She is trying hard to improve her English level with the help of a well known foreign language training center.

Welcome to the most popular language in the world. In the 21st century, if you have a rich level of English Language, you are the king with a prestigious throne.

If you are a beginner learner or university student or an intermediate level of English, here are seven tips that will make your learning easier. 

1. Level test

Suppose, you are a university student and gonna learn English from pre-primary level such as: ‘A’ for apple, ‘B’ for Ball and ‘Z’ for Zoo. It is quite time-wasting. So, you firstly need to know, in which level of English do you belong? 

There are many online platforms like the British Council that will give you a chance to test your English level and provide suggestions on how to develop your skills.

2. Set goals 

You may know many vocabulary and rules of the language but the real struggle is to use them correctly. So, it is handy to focus on those specific sectors and improve your level up.

For example, you are facing trouble with using tense. So, you set a 15 days timeline to learn tense form the book ‘Oxford Practice Grammar and Answers’. At the end of the days, check and mark if you have achieved your goals.

3. Practice 

Do you know why you should take exercise regularly? I know, you are wise and love to take exercise every day. It helps you to build sound health and a sound mind. 

Learning new things,  practice is a must. It will sharpen your memory day by day. So, you must keep 15 minutes to English every day. You can listen to favorite songs, read fairy tales or functions, watch upcoming short movies, play word games and also chitchat with your buddy.

4. Chunks word

Do you even think to memorize a whole dictionary? Please, stop! You are not a robot,  you are a smart human being. It is not useful for you as you want to speak like a native. 

If you learn ‘chunks’ word or phrase, it will be easier and effective for you to express yourself without interruption.  Because ‘chunks’ words will help you to create a sentence in a short time and smooth your speaking. 

5. Twist people

Discussing or sharing thoughts is a process of learning. When you can invite your family and friends on the way of your new language challenge, it will be more fun and impressive. They will take part and also practice with you. If you feel shy, they will help to overcome it and encourage you.

Share what you have learned and taken feedback to them. Try to impress them by showing your talents. 

6. Celebrate a party

Celebrating something has a lifetime impact. You may arrange a special dinner by inviting some of your foreigner friends,  if you have no friends then you may invite some foreigner tourists. They will be grateful for your cordial invitation. When you spend time with them, it will really work to practice language and sharing culture. And another important point is that you will build a good relationship. 

7. Be natural 

English is not so much hard that you may think. It is a tool for communication. Don’t worry. You will learn English naturally. You just need to stay on track and focus on the terminal point. Be natural, and try to speak naturally.

If you make a mistake, just laugh at them. The most important thing is learning the language, don’t count how many mistakes you make. 

Learning English is not a soft drink. It will be quite hard if you don’t desire to grab it seriously. But it will be embarrassing and exciting when you can express yourself in another language. So, stay motivated and hold your dreams.
